Karla Darocas will explore the painting styles of several 19th c Southern Spanish Romantic artists and talk about a few of their popular cultural paintings that from an Andalusian expression allude to the modest wooing rituals of couples during their courtship.
Some lovers are prolonged in endless conversations during long walks, at fairgrounds, in darkened narrow streets or behind window bars, metaphors of impassable attempts at foreplay, as lovers are carefully chaperoned by family and friends.
The Art Talk will conclude with the analysis of a painting of an Andulusican wedding celebration painted with a diversity of different emotions, hinting at a subtle plot within a scene, which is superficial and anecdotal in appearance compared to the picturesque and magnificent decorative qualities that the artist brings to the canvas.
